This Week in The Book World:

We are listening to the creators again this week.

On Monday, Banned Book Week began.

By the Numbers:

According to The Guardian, 10,000 books were banned in U.S. public schools from 2023-2024, almost 3x as many as the previous year (3,362).

Creators in the book space are doing their part by reading, spreading stats, and doing giveaways.

Groups like Melanin & Manuscripts Book Club are sharing their book lists and stats, while clothing companies like Kind Cotton are making exclusive Banned Book Week merch and donating books to kids all over the country.

Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay is getting in on the action as well, serving as the honorary chair of Banned Book Week.

Two of her films based on books, A Wrinkle in Time and Origins, have been challenged as well.

This Week in Publishing:

Out today is another Sally Rooney book sure to be all over social feeds.

Sally Rooney is a literary fiction author and screenwriter known for books such as Normal People, Conversations with Friends, and Beautiful World, Where Are You.

Her new book, Intermezzo, tells the story of two brothers—one a lawyer, Peter, and one a chess prodigy, Ivan—who work through the death of their father, their complicated romantic lives, and their even more tangled relationship with each other. Ten years separate the Koubek brothers.
