National Book Award Longlist Revealed, Stevie Wonder and More Bookum News

Hannah Lisa Lohr, Stevie Wonder, PenguinRandomHouse

Happy Pub Day!

(or as I like to call it, the last Tuesday of summer)

Time to drain the pool, deflate the floaties, and pick up a thriller! Readers, this is the season you've waited for: cozy weather, canceled plans, and a good book with a hot drink. Be selfish this season, you earned it!

We tried something new on our Author Talk Podcast: a craft session. We chatted with author Taylor Duran about worldbuilding and developing book series. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/xUIv_i2Dlxw

This Week's Sunsets:

  • Creator Talk with Hannah Lisa Lohr

  • National Book Awards

  • Stevie Wonder on Audible

This Week On Bookum:

Quick reminder: Tune in tomorrow at 7:30 EST for our live conversation with National Book Award Finalist Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah on Bookum Nooks with guest host @thesolReader!

Elsewhere in the Bookum-verse (love this term by the way!), we're excited for a special Creators Talk Podcast with book content creator and Booktoker Hannah Lisa Lohr. Formerly known as @Thepaperbackbruncher, Hannah is witty and hosts the Moody Readers Book Club!

Make sure to join us live on Bookum on Friday! If you have any questions for Hannah (or Nana), reply to this email or post them on Bookum!

This Week in The Book World:

Time for our only quasi-sports reference. The NBA longlist just dropped! As much as we'd love it to be the actual NBA, today we're talking about the National Book Awards. Held annually in November, it's one of the most prestigious book awards of the year. Here are the longlists for Fiction & Nonfiction:

The creator content surrounding the awards has been just as exciting as the selections themselves. Book content creators like Eric Karl Anderson, AlyseReads, and Traci Thomas have done some great breakdowns of the books. We'll link them below:

This Week in Publishing:

Just when you think you know us, we have to switch it up! What if I told you the book of the week isn't even a physical book? Yep, we're going audible (pun intended) this week!

Audible has released an Audible exclusive on the legendary Stevie Wonder, titled "The Wonder of Stevie" by Wesley Morris and narrated by an incredible cast including Questlove, Janelle Monáe, The Obamas, Smoky Robinson, Dionne Warwick, and more!

Summary:

In 1972, Stevie Wonder began a five-year period where he released five groundbreaking, critically acclaimed albums. These albums garnered him more than half a dozen Grammys and sold over 10 million copies, securing his place as one of the most important American musicians and songwriters in history.

For music fans, this might just be a must-listen! If you check it out, please share your reviews on Bookum! We'd love to hear them.

As always, if you enjoyed this week’s newsletter, please share it with others. Every share helps and keeps us growing!

Definitely share to a book content creator friend that might enjoy our newsletter!
