Rise of Creators Turned Cookbook Authors, Nooks & Al Pacino’s Memoir!

Read with Raegan, Zora Neale Hurston, Cookbooks

Happy Tuesday!

You can almost smell the sweet potato pie, apple cider, and cinnamon aroma.

The end of the year is almost here, which means it's about that time for the end-of-the-year Book List!

We want to make our first-ever Bookum Creator's List — and we need your help!

Please take 10.7 seconds to answer this one question (I timed it):

As we expand, we imagine the Bookum Creator's List will be up there with the most prestigious in the space, largely because it's curated from the best readers around!

Thank you for your input!

Check out our latest Founders Talk Podcast with the insightful Jennifer Baker, host and creator of the podcast Minorities in Publishing.

Baker has spent 20+ years in publishing, worked as an acquisitions editor at a major publisher, and has been a pioneer in the book space.

This Week's List:

  • 📚 How to: Nooks

  •  📺 The Rise of Creators Turned Cookbook Authors

  • 📖 Book by Al Pacino

This Week On Bookum:

No interviews this week, but that doesn't mean the conversation is stopping over here.

I wanted to share one of our favorite features on the app: Nooks.

Nooks is our real-time audio group space for book talks and discussions.

Basically, a 6-way phone call for our millennial readers on here.

For those who want to get a group together to discuss books, the latest news in the book world, debate topics, Ask Me Anythings, etc., Nooks is the home for dynamic bookish conversations.

Here's how to start one on the app:

Nooks are located on the discovery tab or by hitting the orange plus sign.

Here are some topics that might be fun:

  • Best Book to Screen Adaptation of the Year

  • National Book Award snubs or best books on the list

  • Conversation on the state of the book review

  • Who's the Real Queen of BookTok? (Okay, the last one was a joke)

Get a group together and try it out today:

This Week in The Book World:

Creators come in all shapes and sizes at Bookum, and this week we are taking our books to the kitchen.

There has been a growing trend of creators turned authors (we see it in bookish content creators — shoutout to Zaji-Kali) and now we are seeing it from foodies.

Yes, foodies (not Keith Lee yet) are entering the book space, and let Publisher's Weekly tell it, it can be quite lucrative for publishing houses.

According to Brandon Buechley, associate editor at DK, “It’s important to find someone who has dedicated followers who are hungry for specific content.”

Take Larry Canam, a 71-year-old creator who has amassed over 7 million followers for his 'How to' Cocktail videos. He has built a community that has been eagerly awaiting his new "Milkshake Monday" book, out Oct 29th, 2024 (ironically on a Tuesday).

Creator Takeaway: Community is the driving focus of all creator verticals. Engage with your community, build spaces for them to interface with you more intimately, and give them real value.

This Week in Publishing:

The Godfather has entered the bookstore.

This week, we have a new memoir by Al Pacino called Sonny Boy.

Pacino's career has spanned 6 decades, starring in Hollywood classics such as The Godfather saga, Serpico, and Scarface.

If you enjoy Hollywood stories, movies, and memoirs, this is for you!

As always, if you enjoyed this week’s newsletter, please share it with others. Every share helps and keeps us growing!

Definitely share to a book content creator friend that might enjoy our newsletter!
