Whoopi Goldberg New Imprint + A Huge Month for Bookum

Geoff Bennett, Ana Huang, Ret. Lt. General Mark Hertling

Happy Thursday!

Alright WE ARE BACK!

Just treat that break like ‘the blip’ in Marvel movies or Men in Black (you do not remember).

Forget Will Smith GIF

You saw nothing 🤣

In all seriousness, thank you so much, everyone. We grew so much last month, we literally had to find a new service that could deliver our newsletter to everyone who joined!

We also hit top 100 in the App Store for books!

For those that do not know, March and April have been great months for Bookum!

We were on the Clay Cane Show, hosted Retired Lt. General Mark Hertling (If I Don't Return), the former CEO of 7-Eleven and Blockbuster, Jim Keyes (Education is Freedom), and PBS Co-Anchor Geoff Bennett (Black Out Loud), all in one week!

Safe to say we were booked and busy!

Anyways, back to business as usual over here.

This Week On Bookum:

Join us today at 1pm ET with Hollywood screenwriter (Scrubs, The Boondocks, Mixed-ish), executive producer, and author Angela Nissel to discuss her new book ‘Good Grief, Pass the Bread, Mom is Dead’.

We will discuss her story, motherhood, processing grief, and how to keep humor and joy throughout life’s challenges 📚

Special conversation leading into Mother's Day weekend next week.

As always, you can listen live on the Bookum App [Nooks].

This Week in The Book World:

Whoopi Goldberg will have a new view, this time from inside the publishing house.

This week, she announced Whoopi Ink, a new publishing imprint in partnership with Blackstone Publishing.

The imprint focuses on publishing diverse, emerging, and established authors across various genres.

Whoopi will be hands-on with selecting and promoting the books.

Bookum’s Take:

Most of the time, celebrity imprints (and book clubs) can be hit or miss, but in this case, this seems like a slam dunk. Whoopi has a loyal fan base and still has a great distribution platform in 'The View' for her authors to make guest appearances. Add a book club element (preferably on Bookum ☺️), and it is a home run (okay, no more sports references).

This Week in Publishing:

New York Times bestselling author Ana Huang is back this week with her 6th book in her Kings of Sin series, "King of Gluttony".

Summary:

"Sebastian Laurent is used to being on top. The heir to a culinary empire, his sharp instincts and effortless charm have made him a legend.

What people do not see are the demons lurking beneath his golden-boy facade. There is only one person who has come close to knowing the real him—Maya Singh, his childhood rival and secret obsession.

She is also the only one who has ever successfully challenged him. He cannot stand her, but if that is true…why can he not stop thinking about her?"
